Volunteer distributing bags of food through the Gwinnett County Corps Drive-thru Food Pantry
Times are tough, but a local Metro Atlanta man is doing what he can to help those who need it most right now. Bruce Longino, a mechanical engineer, decided to donate his stimulus check to a local organization that needed extra assistance at this time. After hearing from a friend that they were in need of help, Longino contacted the Salvation Army of Metro Atlanta, an organization with an over 100 year history of housing and feeding less fortunate Atlantans, to see if he could help. Like many charitable organizations, the Salvation Army has seen increased demand since the implementation of the shelter in place orders, putting unprecedented stress on their food pantry resources. “Since I’m still working, and on social security, and Medicare, I didn’t really need it, and I thought, what better way to stimulate the economy than to buy food for the Salvation Army,” said Longino.

In times like these, not only is it important for businesses to show their support for the community, it is also incumbent on individuals to do their part as well. While it might not be a possible for most people to make large financial donations like Bruce Longino, it’s important that we all come together and support each other however we can. Offering organizations on the front lines and the individuals making a difference kind words of encouragement will make all the difference. In a time where there is so much uncertainty and heaviness weighing on us all, it’s a breath of fresh air to see those who are trying to help make things better for not only their friends and family, but for their neighbors and community at large. We’re all in this together and Atlanta will emerge from this crisis stronger than ever.
